Three types of excerpts give you a sense of what the Herstories are about.

The Quotes page shares a variety of short excerpts, 25 - 200 words each, grouped together by eleven common themes, such as coming out, military experiences, or seeking professional help. Most quotes are accompanied by a photo, but some are anonymous.

Quotes

The Voices page allows you to listen to samples of  women speaking during their interviews. Their voices can be accessed directly on that page… no need to download or to have a specific audio player.

The Profiles pages offer an in depth look at several Herstories. Each provides an overview about the interview (length, dates, etc.), abstract, graphics, and a sample page from that woman's transcript.

Profiles

Excerpts and images appearing on our website, in our books, newsletters and the DVD, are used with permission from each woman. We don't want to leave anyone with the impression that we're doing the interviews for those purposes. The work of the OLOHP is done so that these women's stories are told in their own words and are not lost. Everyone, including our interviewers, signs a contract with the Project. Women with any concerns on how their words and images may be used are encouraged to add restrictions to their contract and we will honor them, and we trust you will, too.

If you quote materials from the OLOHP website, make sure to give us the credit!
If you want to use longer, or mulitple pieces from our website, please contact the OLOHP first.

Picture
Note sent to the OLOHP: What you have done is so important that I think even you don’t understand it. This will have a life of its own and be around way after we are gone. To have thought this up, seen the need, and assumed the effort to get it done is phenomenal. I really do salute you.
TF says: The women that the OLOHP has brought to us have lived remarkable lives, often solitary and private, and we are far richer for knowing these women, their struggles and their passion.
